I'm not very tech savvy and most of what I've been able to achieve is a combination of perusing forum posts and dumb luck, so I would really appreciate any help you can offer in my endeavor to upgrade the operating system. I've tried doing all of this while connected with an ethernet cable without a different result. If you want INSANE speed upgrades, upgrade the RAM up to 16 GB (79.99). Upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB (60) and change the hard drive (HDD) to a 1TB SDD Storage (150) so that it’s faster and has more storage. I also tried to download OS X El Capitan directly from the Apple Support website, but the download size is less than 6GB which seems unlikely for an OS upgrade, and after running the program, nothing changed. Get a Refurbished mid-2012 MacBook Pro (550) from Amazon or use the one you have.

there is a software update in the App Store when I try to run the update, there is a brief flash that shows the download beginning, and then the following error message pops up "An error occurred while downloading the updates.(102)" I'm currently running OS X Version 10.8.5 and I have the following issues: I managed to finagle restoring the computer after some trial and error, but I'm now faced with the issue that I cannot upgrade the operating system. I returned to the problem a week ago and dealt with both the flashing folder and the subsequent -1007F error. Unfortunately I made some sort of mistake during this process and ended up with the dreaded 'Flashing Question Mark' folder and had to buy a new computer for work so quickly that I forgot about it. I have a Mid 2012 13" Macbook Pro which I wiped a few months ago when it became incredibly sluggish and glitchy.
